Today I wanted a good laugh, so I though I’d share a little chemistry silliness with you. Laughter is the best medicine… unless you have a broken leg or a deep cut. In that case, I’d get to the doctor!
When you surf around the web or read labels on foods, it’s really easy to be fooled by big words or jargon that is particular to that industry. It happens in the water industry too and there is a boatload of crazy information out there that misleads. That’s why we created the No BS Water idea… the truth is always what we’re aiming to uncover.
People often get lost in chemical names and think if it sounds “chemically” that it must be bad for you. Well, H2O is a chemical name and we all know how good that is for you. In fact, people even spoof the whole water thing by calling it dihydrogen monoxide (which simply means 2 Hydrogens and 1 Oxygen = H2O).
Sodium chloride or NaCl is another common chemical name… and necessary for life. It’s salt… as in the salt of the earth… as in you would die without it. So it’s important to learn the truth about things rather than be fooled if you don’t know the big names someone is using.
Here’s a big one: deoxyribonucleic acid with a really REALLY long chemical formula. You probably know it by its shorter name: DNA
So here’s the giggle (with hint at the bottom).
The clue is in the chemistry. “I’ll have some H2O too” is H2O2… which is hydrogen peroxide. Definitely not for drinking.
So have fun today and be careful about what you put into your body. Life Support H2O is the kind I would recommend.
